(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 19 - Italy is among the countries where
there has been a reversal in momentum on the transition towards
sustainable, clean forms of energy, according to the World
Economic Forum's Fostering Effective Energy Transition 2024
report.
It said Italy came only 41st in its Energy Transition Index
(ETI), which benchmarks 120 countries on their current energy
system performance and on the readiness of their enabling
environment, largely due to its heavy reliance on gas.
"Several countries have experienced a reversal in energy
transition
momentum over the past three years, notably, the UK, Italy,
Turkey, Angola and Kuwait," the report said.
The report said that, at the international level, the energy
transition is progressing but has lost momentum in the face of
increasing global uncertainty.
It said progress has been held back by setbacks in energy
equity, driven by rising energy prices in recent years, while
energy security also continues to be tested by geopolitical
risks.
Sweden leads the global rankings, followed by Denmark and
Finland, while France has entered the top five performers.
Major growing centers of demand like Brazil, China and India
have made strong improvements on the ETI in recent years, the
report said. (ANSA).
