(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 9 - The European Commission is moving
ahead with excessive deficit procedures against Italy and six
other EU countries, the EC said Tuesday.
The Commission has proposed to the European Council yesterday's
decisions establishing the existence of excessive deficits for
Belgium, France, Italy, Hungary, Malta, Poland and Slovakia.
The next step is for the Council to decide on the existence of
an excessive deficit in these Member States and, on a proposal
from the Commission as part of the autumn package of the
European Semester, to adopt its recommendation on the adjustment
path and the deadline for bringing the excessive deficit
situation to an end.
The procedure was opened by the Commission with the spring
package of the Semester. (ANSA).
