(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 8 - The government's Strategic Budget Plan
(SBP) is ambitious but realistic, Economy Minister Giancarlo
Giorgetti told the House and Senate budget committees Tuesday
while stressing that war made the scenario uncertain.
The SBP is "a document that is both ambitious and realistic,"
said Giorgetti in a hearing on the plan at the joint Budget
Committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
"The stability of public finances is an element of great
importance," he added.
"The plan outlines a public finance framework that leads to a
stable reduction in the stock of public debt and related
charges, which is an unavoidable necessity.
"The presentation of this new document comes at a time
characterized by contrasting trends: if on the one hand the
trend of economic variables appears overall in line with
expectations, on the other the widening of ongoing conflicts,
particularly in the Middle East, is further increasing the
uncertainty that characterizes the global economic scenario".
