(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 15 - EasyJet is in pole position to take
over the thirty daily slots that ITA Airways and Lufthansa must
cede at Linate airport and to take over the problematic
short-haul routes from Italy to Central Europe, part of the
agreement reached between the two companies and Brussels in July
for the green light to the Italo-German merger, EU sources said
Tuesday.
The British low-cost airline is seen as a good carrier to
protect competition, with a better profile than its Spanish
competitor Volotea.
The EU Commission, the same sources highlighted, is aiming to
give its final authorization in November, before the end of its
mandate. (ANSA).
