Italian education falls short

Every region in Italy falls short of European Union education objectives, but 'educational poverty' hits southern Italy particularly hard, the non-profit Save the Children said Monday.
    A study released by the organization found that only 2. 5% of small children in Calabria have access to daycare, and just 6.5% of elementary-school children in Campania have a full-time schedule. Italy's dropout rates are highest in the southern regions of Campania and Sicily, at 22% and 25.8%, respectively. The northeastern region of Valle d'Aosta, bordering France and Switzerland, ranked third at 19%.
