Rome to weigh red-light district in EUR

Mayor to give green light 'in next few weeks'

(ANSA) - Rome, February 6 - Officials in the Fascist-era southern Roman quarter of EUR are set to hand Mayor Ignazio Marino plans to test out a red-light district in the zone.
    Marino, who has advocated zoning laws for prostitutes, is expected to give the green light if the project meets his approval "in the next few weeks," sources said.
    EUR, built for a 1942 Expo that was scotched by the Second World War, is one of the parts of Rome where streetwalkers ply their trade.
    EUR, which stands for Esposizione Universale Roma, is by day a business centre and suburban neighbourhood on Rome's southern outksirts.
    The area follows a regular, geometric fashion unusual in the capital, with wide thoroughfares and marble-clad buildings.
    EUR and its iconic Square Colosseum have appeared in a number of films over the years, including Federico Fellini's Boccaccio '70 (1962), Hudson Hawk (1991) starring Bruce Willis, and more recently, the 1999 film adaptation of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus.
