(ANSA) - Alessandria, February 15 - Investigators are
probing the death of Simona Casciano, a 37-year-old woman who
died in hospital in Alessandria three days after giving birth to
her daughter, said Italian daily La Stampa on Monday.
Casciano's husband Davide Riccobono reported his wife's
death to police in the Piedmont city located about 100 km
southwest of Milan.
Investigators seized Casciano's hospital chart as part of
their probe.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of
death.
The hospital, Santi Antonio e Biagio e Cesare Arrigo,
released a statement that said Casciano "remained in hospital
for a complication that occurred in postpartum", but that
doctors "are not yet able to provide certainties" regarding the
reasons for her death.
