Media information false says Egypt ambassador

(ANSA) - Rome, February 12 - Egyptian Ambassador to Italy Amr Helmy on Monday warned against "speculation" over the probe into the torture and murder in Cairo of Italian student Giulio Regeni. Helmy said the investigation was proceeding "in a satisfactory" way. In order to find the culprits, he said, "it is necessary to wait" and let the joint Italo-Egyptian investigation reach "an objective conclusion on the case". Egypt has denied reports its security forces detained Regeni. Helmy said western media reports that two security officers took Regeni into custody on January 25, nine days before his body was found, were "completely false".
