(ANSA) - Salerno, February 25 - A Moroccan man died hours
after being found beaten to a pulp and with his feet bound in
his home in the town of Scafati in Salerno province last night,
sources said Thursday.
A Moroccan neighbor alerted police after finding the door
to the victim's home unhinged.
Sources said the victim may have been attacked on Tuesday
and left in agony for 24 hours.
The victim, an occasional day laborer, had no priors and no
criminal connections.
"We fiercely condemn this vile act against a non-EU
citizen," said Scafati Mayor Pasquale Aliberti.
"Violence is not our way of life - our community has always
demonstrated the ability to interact with those who respect our
rules and to distance itself - albeit with a democratic attitude
- from those who refuse to integrate.
"Full solidarity with the Moroccan community".
Police are investigating, and an autopsy will be carried
out.
