(ANSA) - Rome, May 6 - There is a risk of "climate refugees"
being created by climate change and Italy must pay "special
attention" to Africa, Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said at
an environment protection conference in Rome Friday.
"Climate change will make us reckon with the phenomenon of
climate refugees," he said.
"There are areas of the world where people move because of
reasons linked to climate change.
"Italy must pay special attention to Africa", where "28
million Africans see their survival threatened by El Nino".
He also said that small islands in the Caribbean and
Pacific are threatened.
