(ANSA) - Rome, October 30- Crowds flocked on Tuesday to the
funeral at Cisterna di Latina of Desirée Mariottini, a
16-year-old girl drugged up, gang-raped and murdered in an
abandoned building in Rome's San Lorenzo district earlier this
month.
Hundreds of people including many youngsters turned out for
the funeral at the San Valentino church in the part of the town
south of Rome where she lived, while pink and white balloons
were tied to lamp posts and signs.
Among the wreaths was one from the Lazio regional government.
Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi has called a day of civic mourning
Tuesday.
Desirée was laid to rest in a coffin with white roses on top,
her mother and father walking behind it.
One of the banners outside the church read "Justice for
Desirée".
Four African men including two Senegalese drug pushers, a
Nigerian and a Ghanian have been arrested in the case.
Desirée was a drug user.
