(ANSA) - Trieste, December 4 - Some 19 people were hurt, some
seriously, when a van carrying 14 migrants and two smugglers
swerved into a car carrying three women while being chased by a
police car near the Italy-Slovenia border Tuesday.
The accident took place in the Triestine Carso mountainous
area, in the municipality of Opicina near Monrupino, where
migrant smugglers from Slovenia often abandon migrants after
helping them cross the border.
The hire van, a white Fiat with Italian plates, crashed
head-on into a red Skoda with Slovenian plates carrying the
three women.
All 19 people were hurt.
It is not yet clear how many are in a serious condition.
