(ANSA) - Catania, May 15 - A preliminary investigations judge (GIP) in Catania on Wednesday shelved an investigation against captain Marc Reig Creus and mission chief Ana Isabel Montes Mier of the migrant-rescue vessel operated by Spanish NGO ProActiva Open Arms. The pair were under investigation on charges of criminal association for illegal immigration for taking to Pozzallo, near Ragusa, 218 migrants they had rescued off Libya in March 2018.
The decision was taken at the State attorney's request.
Ragusa prosecutors are still investigating allegations of aiding illegal immigration and abuse.
