(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 16 - Italy registered 34,867 'ecomafia' crimes in 2020, approximately 95 a day or four every hour, environmental association Legambiente said in a report on Tuesday.
The NGO said the COVID-19 pandemic did not stop mobsters committing crimes against the environment, such as the illegal trafficking and disposal of waste and illegal construction.
On the contrary, there was a 0.6% rise in 'ecomafia' cases with respect to 2019.
The report said 33,620 people were reported to prosecutors with respect to ecomafia cases last year, an increase of 12%.
Legambiente said Campania, the region Naples belongs do, was Italy's worst region for ecomafia felonies in 2020, with 5,457, 15 a day. (ANSA).
