(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 9 - At least three strains of the highly
infectious but less severe Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus
are currently circulating in Italy, scientists said Tuesday
evening.
In all its guises, Omicron accounts for 100% of COVID
circulation, having driven out the Delta variant, they said.
Health Undersecretary Pierpaolo Sileri said Wednesday that a
slight rise in contagion had not been translated into a
corresponding rise in hospitalizations.
He said this was due to the dominance of the milder Omicron
sub-variants.
"The situation is under control," said Sileri on Canale 5.
