(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 3 - Press freedom is a gauge of a
country's democracy, President Sergio Mattarella said on the
world day of press freedom and day of remembrance for
journalists killed by the mafia and terrorism Tuesday.
"Freedom of the press, together with the freedom of being
informed, is the thermometer of the democratic health of a
country," he said in his message.
"We are taught this by the dramatic events of the war in Ukraine
in these days.
"It is the task of the international community at various levels
to make effective these rights". (ANSA).
