(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 23 - A Roman basketball coach smacked a
17-year-old player on the back of her head after she missed a
shot in a Serie B play-off game at Rieti on Sunday.
Basket Roma Coach Luciano Bongiorno's gesture was widely
condemned.
The president of the Italian Basketball Federation, Gianni
Petrucci, said he had reported the case to federal prosecutors.
"Violence is execrable ad does not belong in our sport and
culture. We condemn what happened without hesitation," Petrucci
said.
"Slapping one of your athletes is never justifiable". (ANSA).
