(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 13 - Premier Mario Draghi told a self-deprecating joke at the first foreign press club dinner in Rome Tuesday night where he was the guest of honour.
After complimenting the foreign press on replicating the similar White House dinner that has been a traditional venue for jokes over the years, Draghi told his one: "A man awaiting a heart transplant is asked if he wants the heart of a 25-year-old in fine fettle or that of an 86 year old central banker, and replies 'I choose the second'. Asked why, he says 'because it's never been used!'".
The 74-year-old former head of the European Central Bank, who famously said he'd do "whatever it takes" to save the euro, told the correspondents present that he was "a grandfather at your service". (ANSA).
