Police justify pointing gun at Milan's Bakayoko during check

Officers' conduct justified by situation says statement

(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 18 - The Milan police department on Monday defended the conduct of its officers after a video in which police point a gun at AC Milan's French midfielder Tiémoué Bakayoko during a recent check went viral on the Internet.
In a statement, Milan police said accusations of racism in relation to the incident were "out of place".
It said the officers' behaviour was justified by an "operative situation" that required "the adoption of the highest security measures" including for reasons of self-defence. The department said Bakayoko and another man were stopped because they matched the description of suspects wanted in relation to a fight between foreign nationals in which shots were fired.
Bakayoko was allowed to go about his business once his identity was established. (ANSA).
