(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 12 - An 85-year-old woman has been in
Milan's tough San Vittore Prison for the last two weeks after
being given an eight month sentence for squatting, prisoners'
rights group Antigone said Wednesday.
It said the situation was made worse by the fact that the woman
is not self-sufficient.
Antigone said the woman should never have gone to jail because
her crime did not pose a danger to society and her term was so
short.
It said authorities had so far turned a deaf ear to pleas for
her to be let out.
"The situation must be resolved as soon as possible," said the
group. (ANSA).
