(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 14 - A 29-year-old Moroccan-born prisoner
hanged himself in a Florence jail Thursday night, the 68th
prison suicide this year and 25 more than the same period last
year, prison warder union SAPPE said Friday.
The man had been transferred to Sollicciano Prison from a jail
in Aosta a few days ago.
His term was due to end in a few days but he also had hanging
over him a European arrest warrant to be served by an appeals
court.
Before hanging himself, the inmate blocked the cell lock with a
piece of plastic in order to prevent guards coming in and
cutting him down before he died. (ANSA).
