(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 28 - Italy's annual inflation rate reached
11.9% in October, the highest level since March 1984, according
to a preliminary estimate released by ISTAT on Friday.
That is up sharply from last month's annual inflation rate of
8.9%.
The national statistics agency said the massive rise registered
this month was driven by a 73.2% increase in energy prices (up
from 44.5% in September) and a 13.1% rise in food prices
(compared to 11.4% last month).
ISTAT said that its consumer price index has risen by 3.5% in
month-on-month terms. (ANSA).
