(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 4 - The climate change group that attacked
a Van Gogh with soup in Rome Friday said they had acted out of a
love for life and art.
Three young women belonging to the Ultima Generazione (Last
Generation) activist group threw vegetable soup on the Dutch
master's The Sower in the Palazzo Bonaparte but it was undamaged
because protected by a glass screen.
"Today, vegetable soup on Van Gogh's The Sower. We act out of
love for life, and therefore love for art!", tweeted the group.
"In a future where we will struggle to find food for all, how
can we think that art will still be safeguarded?
"The anomalous heat of these days, and the drought, have damaged
Italian agriculture, and that is nothing compared to what awaits
us if governments continue to develop programmes that further
tie us to fossil fuels."
The tweet, which posted a link to a Sole-24 Ore business daily
story on the damage caused to agriculture by the freakishly long
heatwave in Italy, was accompanied by a picture of the three
activists in front of the painting. (ANSA).
