(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 16 - The Fegica and Figisc Confcommercio
associations representing gas-station operators said Monday that
a two-day strike scheduled to take place on January 25 and 26
was on as things currently stand.
The associations had announced the strike to protest at being
hit with a "wave of mud" over high prices after the government
ended a reduction in fuel duties at the turn of the year.
There had been tension after Meloni's cabinet last week approved
a decree to boost the transparency of fuel prices to stop
speculative hikes.
The associations said Friday that the strike was on hold
following talks with the government and pending further
negotiations this week.
But the publication in the official gazette of the decree, which
includes the obligation for gas stations to show the average
national price for fuel alongside their own prices, has irked
the associations.
"The government continues to pass the buck over high fuel
prices," said Fegica President Roberto Di Vincenzo. (ANSA).
