Istat: marriages in Italy +86.3% in 2021

Numebr still not back to pre-Covid levels

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 6 - The number of marriages celebrated in Italy in 2021 rose by 86.3% to 180,416 over the previous year, ISTAT said in a report published Monday.
    The number was still not back to pre-Covid levels, added the national statistics institute.
    Religious ceremonies almost tripled compared to 2020 but were still down 5.1% compared to before the pandemic.
    Preliminary data for marriages from the first nine months of 2022 showed a 4.8% increase over the same period in 2021, driven by a 10.8% increase in civil weddings.
    Civil unions instead rose by 32% in the first nine months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, according to the ISTAT report "Marriages, civil unions, separations and divorces in 2021".
    First-time marriages in 2021 rose more than twofold to 142.394, accounting for 78.9% of the total.
    In 2021 sme 38.022 second marriages were also celebrated, up 0.2% over the previous year. (ANSA).
