(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 28 - A total of 73 refugees and asylum
seekers will arrive in Italy on Thursday via two humanitarian
corridors respectively from Lebanon and Greece, the Community of
Sant'Egidio, one of the organizers, said on Tuesday.
Some 58 Syrian refugees will arrive on a flight from Beirut,
including 24 minors and several people requiring urgent medical
attention, according to a statement.
The families have been living in refugee camps or in precarious
accommodation on the outskirts of Beirut and have been
particularly badly impacted by the economic, social and
political crisis affecting the country.
They will arrive under the Humanitarian Corridors programme
involving faith-based organizations and the Italian foreign and
interior ministries that has brought over 6,000 refugees to
Italy and Europe in safety and dignity since 2016, including
2.486 from Lebanon, according to the statement.
Also on Thursday, 15 highly vulnerable asylum seekers
originating from Iraq, Congo and Somalia will arrive in Italy
from Greece under a specific agreement between Sant'Egidio and
the Italian government. (ANSA).
