Italy condemned by EU parliament for anti-LGBT rhetoric

Amendment blasts spread by politicians, governments

(ANSA) - ROME, APR 20 - The European parliament on Thursday approved an amendment condemning Italy, Poland and Hungary over their use of anti-rights, anti-gender and anti-LGBTIQ rhetoric.
    The amendment "strongly condemns the spread of anti-rights, anti-gender and anti-LGBTIQ rhetoric by some influential political leaders and governments in the EU, as in the case of Hungary, Poland and Italy. " The amendment, which was approved by 282 votes in favor, 235 against and 10 abstentions, had been added to a resolution calling for the universal decriminalization of homosexuality and transgender identity, in response to newly adopted anti-homosexuality legislation in Uganda. The resolution was approved with 416 votes in favor, 62 against and 36 abstentions. (ANSA).
