(ANSA) - ROME, APR 25 - President of the Republic Sergio
Mattarella laid a laurel wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier at the Altar of the Homeland in Rome for Liberation Day
on Tuesday.
Premier Giorgia Meloni, Senate Speaker Ignazio La Russa, Lower
House Speaker Lorenzo Fontana, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto
and municipal and regional government representatives also
attended the ceremony to mark the country's liberation in 1945
from Fascism and Nazi occupation.
After the ceremony Mattarella travelled to Piedmont for
ceremonies in Cuneo, Borgo San Dalmazzo and Boves, the scene of
the first Nazi reprisal massacre in WWII, with some 24 civilians
murdered and 350 homes burned down. (ANSA).
