(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 18 - Nine wolves, three griffon vultures
and two imperial crows have been found dead in the Abruzzo
National Park over the last week, almost certainly after eating
poisoned meat baits laid down by poachers, official said
Thursday.
The investigation carried out by the Carabinieri forest rangers
and the Public Prosecutor's Office regards animal carcasses
found in the area of Cocullo (L'Aquila).
Within the space of a week, as confirmed by the Abruzzo Lazio
and Molise National Park, a pack of wolves that had been living
in the Olmo di Bobbi area has been practically exterminated.
The locality is known for being the watershed between the
Giovenco Valley, the Subeacquana Valley and the Peligna Valley.
