(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 4 - A woman committed suicide in Sicily on
Tuesday after reporting her former intimate partner for stalking
while serving an 11-year conviction under house arrest for
repeated sexual violence, injuries and death threats against
her.
The 33-year-old Romanian national reported her ex, 26-year-old
Razvan Birzoi also from Romania, on June 28, and Caltanissetta
prosecutors had the man transferred to prison.
The pair had reportedly been romantically linked for a few
months in 2020, before the woman reported her partner for sexual
violence and ill-treatment.
Birzoi was subsequently sentenced to 11 years at first instance
and the sentence was upheld on appeal.
The Caltanissetta public prosecutor's office will now have to
establish whether the controls to which Birzoi was subject under
house arrest were insufficient. (ANSA).
