(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 19 - Catania airport's Terminal A is to
remain closed for a further five days due to fire damage
according to a statement from civil aviation authority Enac and
airport operator Sac.
The terminal is now expected to reopen on July 24.
Enac and Sac also said that efforts are underway to increase the
number of flights departing from Terminal C from the current two
to four and then to seven per hour in order to mitigate the
disruption during peak holiday season.
The airport had been due to reopen fully at 2 pm on Wednesday.
However, earlier Sac said the reopening was delayed because more
work is needed to repair the damage caused by a fire at arrivals
on Sunday night.
Catania airport serves 91 destinations, of which 24 are in
Italy, and the disruptions to flights have affected tens of
thousands of passengers. (ANSA).
