(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 18 - A so-called 'seismic swarm' in the
night of Thursday to Friday spooked residents in the highly
seismic zone of the Campi Flegrei (Phlegrean Fields) near Naples
and many of them spent the night in the streets.
Five earthquake tremors were recorded by the INGV, the National
Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, starting at 2 a.
The strongest tremor, magnitude 2.8, was recorded at 6.22 a.m.
and was distinctly felt in the city of Naples.
Fear spread among the population of Pozzuoli and the other
municipalities in the Phlegrean area: many were woken up in the
middle of the night and some even took to the streets.
The Civil Protection department of the surrounding Campania
Region was immediately activated. (ANSA).
