(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 21 - A police officer seriously injured in
the attempt to foil the escape from a Milan hospital window of a
prisoner under guard in the facility is in intensive care after
undergoing surgery, medical sources said Thursday.
The officer underwent neurosurgical surgery to evacuate a
cerebral haematoma and "cranial decompression and insertion of
an intracranial pressure monitoring system", said a bulletin
from the San Carlo Hospital in Milan, where he was admitted.
The Moroccan-born prisoner, Mordjane Nazim, arrived at the San
Paolo Hospital Wednesday night after being hurt in a fight with
fellow inmates at Milan's San Vittore Prison.
The cop who tried to catch him fell and banged his head on the
ground, and is now being treated in a coma.
Nazim had locked himself inside a bathroom before climbing out
of the window and the two officers guarding him broke down the
door before one of them, Carmine De Rosa, climbed out in pursuit
but then slipped and fell about 10 metres. (ANSA).
