Island's migrant hotspot full again

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 15 - A new wave of migrant-boat landings on Lampedusa brought more than 1400 people to Italy's southern-most island in the space of 26 hours.
As a result, the island's migrant hotspot is once again full, with some 1,430 people there early on Wednesday, although 230 were set to leave and be taken by ferry to Porto Empedocle in Sicily.
During the night, 394 migrants landed on six barges, and another 169 people arrived shortly after aboard four different boats.
On Tuesday a total of 903 migrants arrived in 19 landings.
Lampedusa has been at the centre of international attention in recent months due to a big rise in the number of migrant boats landing there.
The interior ministry said Tuesday that 147,239 people have arrived in Italy so far this year on migrant boats, up from 92,881 in the same period in 2022. (ANSA).
