(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 10 - The family of Giulia Cecchettin, a 22-year-old woman killed by her ex-boyfriend last month in a case that shocked Italy, have filed two separate law suits after coming under a barrage of online threats and abuse.
Cecchettin's father Gino and sister Elena have both shown remarkable courage and composure in calling for Giulia's death to mark a turning point in the fight against gender-based violence.
Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara has sent a circular letter to schools inviting them to get pupils to reflect on what Gino Cecchettin said at his daughter's funeral.
Gino Cecchettin's lawyer Stefano Tigani told ANSA that the family had filed one complaint to the postal police for the dozens of hate-filled messages they have received.
They have also filed a defamation lawsuit against a Veneto regional councillor, Stefano Valdegamberi, for saying Elena Cecchettin wore "satanic symbols" and was "acting" in her public appearances. (ANSA).
