(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 7 - Two people are dead after being hit by
an avalanche on Sunday in the Val Formazza, a valley in the
Piedmont province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, rescuers said.
The avalanche took place between Lake Toggia and the San Giacomo
pass, at an altitude of about 2,200 metres, not far from the
Swiss border.
Rescuers have pulled the body of one of the victims out of the
snow and, at the time of writing, were in the process of
recovering the corpse of the other deceased person from the
lake.
