(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 13 - Premier Giorgia Meloni on Saturday
remembered an Italian musician who couldn't swim and was among
the 32 victims of the January 13, 2012 Costa Concordia cruise
ship disaster at Giglio Island in Tuscany after he gave up his
place in a life boat despite knowing he probably wouldn't
survive.
Marking the 12th anniversary of the disaster, Meloni said on X
that the man, Giuseppe Girolamo, was an "example of selflessness
and courage".
She said "he knew he couldn't swim and when he gave up his place
in the life boat he was well aware of what this choice would
mean for him". (ANSA).
