(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 8 - The seven tractors that arrived at
dawn on the outskirts of Sanremo from Melegnano in Lombardy were
on Thursday morning moving towards the centre as a
representative of their protest group, Agricultural redemption,
said four young farmers could take the stage at the Ariston
Theatre during the televised song festival underway in the
riviera town.
"Four of our guys should be able to go on the Ariston stage,"
said a spokesman.
"A document may also be prepared," he added.
"We are pleased that Amadeus (the artistic director and
presenter of Sanremo, ed.) has spoken about us and now we expect
him to keep his promise to give us space on stage".
However, Danilo Calvani, the president of another group of
protesting farmers, Cra Agricoltori, described the move as
"shameful".
"They are not part of our movement, but future political
candidates," he said.
Calvani also said that more tractors would gather at the
rallying points agreed with police authorities around Rome in
preparation for a big demonstration to be held in the capital
next week.
