(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 17 - Labour Minister Marina Calderone on
Saturday announced a new package of measures on workplace safety
after the structural collapse at a supermarket construction site
in Florence on Friday that left four people confirmed dead, one
person missing feared dead and three people injured.
"There is to be no step backwards on labour safety," said
Calderone in a statement, announcing the new package of
regulations to combat undeclared labour, forced labour and the
protection of safety in the contracting supply chain that is due
to come before the cabinet in the coming days.
"We will move forward with implementation of what has already
been adopted since the government took office. But more will be
done," added the minister.
"This is the time to mourn for the workers who have lost their
lives, to be close to their families and to establish the
facts," she concluded. (ANSA).
