(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 6 - The risk of poverty in Italy fell from
20% to 18.8% in 2023 as a result of changes to the tax and
benefits system, ISTAT said on Wednesday.
Overall inequality in the distribution of disposable income
assessed through the Gini index also fell slightly, from 31.9%
to 31.7%, added the national statistics agency in its report on
income redistribution in Italy.
The improvements are attributable primarily to changes to child
benefit, citizenship income, including the introduction of
training and employment support (SFL) and the partial exemption
of social security contributions for employees, ISTAT said.
