(ANSA) - ROME, APR 24 - Two more workers died as a spate of
fatal workplace accidents in Italy continued Wednesday.
National statistics agency Istat said earlier this month that so
far this year such fatalities were up 19% to 119.
In the first case Wednesday, a 47-year-old Italian worker died
after being crushed by a metal slab at Lograto near Brescia.
According to initial reconstructions, the worker was manoeuvring
an overhead crane when the slab broke loose and crushed him. The
accident occurred inside a steel factory.
In the second case, a 56-year-old Italian worker died at Oppido
Lucano (Potenza) after falling from scaffolding at a building
site set up for the construction of a new church.
A blast, fire and flood at a hydro-electric power plant near
Bologna claimed seven lives earlier this month. (ANSA).
