(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 30 - The number of smokers in Italy has fallen 6% in the last 15 years, from 30% in 2008 to 24% in 2023, but that means one in four Italians are still hooked on tobacco, the Higher Health Institute (ISS) said Thursday.
Some 59% of adults between the ages of 18 and 69 don't smoke and 17% have quit, said the report.
Smoking is more prevalent among the young, with 30.2% of 18-25 year olds using either traditional cigarettes, heated tobacco or e cigarettes, the ISS said.
