Zelensky is expecting 'important decisions' from G7

(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 13 - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said via social media on Thursday that he expects "important decisions" to come from the G7 summit in Puglia.
    G7 leaders hope to be able to finalize an agreement on the use of Russian assets that were seized in the West following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine to help Kyiv at the G7 summit, which Zelensky is set to attend.
    The White House has said G7 leaders are hopeful of reaching an agreement on Thursday and European Council President Charles Michel expressed optimism too.
    "I am very confident that an agreement can be reached in the next few hours," Michel told reporters on the sidelines of the summit at the Puglia resort of Borgo Ignazia.
    "The aim is to improve the proposals so that more resources are available, as quickly as possible for Kyiv.
    "Ukraine needs money now. The resources must be used for all the country's needs, including reconstruction," Michel added, expressing "gratitude" to the Italian duty presidency of the G7 for its work.
    The idea is to use the interest on around 300 billion euros of Russian assets as collateral for a loan of around 50 billion euros to Ukraine.
    Washington has been pushing hard for this, but European nations have been more prudent due to technical issues regarding the legal implications of such a move Zelensky also said that he would sign the security agreements with Japan and the United States at the summit. (ANSA).
