(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 18 - Italian agricultural production
dropped by 1.8% in 2023 as the effects of the climate crisis hit
farmers, Istat said on Tuesday.
The national statistics agency said wine and fruit production
were affected particularly badly, with decreases of 17.4% and
11.2% respectively.
Extreme weather events linked to the climate crisis caused by
human greenhouse-gas emissions, including bouts of torrential
rainfall and flooding, drought, scorching heatwaves and
wildfires in the summer, caused billions of billion of euros of
damage to agriculture and rural infrastructure last year.
