(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 20 - More than a third of the Italian population will be over 65 by the middle of this century, the head of pensions-and-social-security agency INPS said on Thursday.
"Citizens over 65 will represent up to 35% of the national population in 2050,, and this determines a need to rethink the welfare system," INPS President Gabriele Fava said at the presentation of the agency's data on domestic workers.
"The silver economy will increasingly be seen as a great employment opportunity for the country.
"Grandparents are a form of welfare today (via the help they give to their families) but, at the same time, they are also an indicator of what will be needed in the future".
