Antitrust fines Italian Soccer Federation over €4 mn

FIGC says accusation of abuse of dominant position unjustified

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 1 - The Antitrust Authority said Monday that it has fined the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) over 4.03 million euros for abuse of its dominant market position.
The competition watchdog said the abuse regarded the exclusion of other bodies for the promotion of sport from the organization of amateur youth football competitions.
The federation said it would appeal to the Lazio Regional Administrative Court.
"The FIGC considers the penalty to be unjustified, based on erroneous documented arguments and legal reasoning," it said.
"Moreover, this penalty was imposed on the same grounds with which the equestrian sports federation was sanctioned in similar proceedings, a decision that was later annulled by the Council of State (administrative court)".. (ANSA).
