(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 2 - A centre right councillor has quit
just days into her term at Conegliano near Treviso after calling
the hundreds of people who died of heat exposure at the annual
Hajj Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca victims of "natural selection".
The woman, Silvia Marcon, elected on a civic list last month,
made the comment on the Facebook page of a rightwing League
party official, the anti-immigrant group she belonged to until
recently.
Conegliano Mayor Fabio Chiesa said Marcon had apologised for her
"unfortunate" remark. (ANSA).
