State attorneys in favour of revoking Toti house arrest

Preliminary hearings judge to rule on case

(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 31 - State attorneys in Genoa on Wednesday gave a favourable opinion to the release of former Liguria Governor Giovanni Toti from house arrest.
Preliminary hearings judge (GUP) Paola Faggioni is now set to rule on the issue and a decision is expected by the end of the week.
Prosecutors believe Toti can be released from house arrest as, after his resignation as governor last week, there is no risk that he could re-offend - a key condition for pre-trial detention, investigative sources said.
Toti was placed under house arrest on May 7 in connection with a corruption probe.
The investigation regards alleged bribes in which cash for an election campaign was exchanged for favours, including the extension of a port terminal concession. (ANSA).
