(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 28 - Search operations continued Wednesday
for a woman and her son, aged 74 and 42 respectively, who were
reported missing on Tuesday night in the hillside town of San
Felice a Cancello near the Campania city of Caserta after their
Apecar was swept away by a landslide-induced mud and debris
flow.
Rescuers found the Apecar vehicle in the night between Tuesday
and Wednesday at the bottom of a cliff but not the pair, who are
believed to have been hurled out of the vehicle upon impact.
Search operations continued on Wednesday morning with five
firefighter units and Carabinieri police with sniffer dogs.
Significant damage was reported in the area following the
storm-induced landslide and several homes had to be evacuated,
rescuers said.
Torrential rain and thunderstorms pummelled late on Tuesday many
areas of Campania, in particular the provinces of Caserta and
Avellino. (ANSA).
