(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 10 - A fresh episode of violence against
medical staff in Puglia was reported on Tuesday, when a doctor
was attacked by a patient at the Francesco Ferrari Hospital of
Casarano, near Lecce.
After the cases recorded over the past week at the Policlinico
Riuniti hospital in Foggia, medical sources in Casarano said a
man waiting to undergo a cystoscopy procedure at the department
of urology became hysterical once he was helped lie down in
preparation for the exam and started kicking a doctor in the
stomach.
On Tuesday, the director of Foggia's Policlinico Riuniti
hospital threatened to close its emergency room after a spate of
attacks on health personnel continued with three assaults in
less than a week. (ANSA).
